I Miss You Guys!!

In the midst of my stressful studies, , a disastrous chain-reaction consequence due to procrastinating devil inside me, as well as neglecting all the golden opportunity to go out with people i dont even know, i just seriously miss you people, Kinn, Kien, Remy, John Thong, Hooi lam, and berne is out of it cause i've been sharing the same ceiling with her. haha And lastly not the least, Raj. But of cause, i miss B and raj cause you guys switched to group 5. practically, i can say.. i miss group 5 people.

Composition: 2nd Friday Class

Again, i went out to try out some more compositions exercise. i'm trying my best to snap just a shot of  everything, pretending i'm holding a film camera, having my LCD screen lid closed. I then "anticipatingly" transfer them to my darkroom lightroom.

Strolled along part of the moscow river, i wonder i should get a map, then mark the routes and places i've been. i can know where else i haven't been to.
Now, back to composition, 1st example, two photos taken by difference of two three steps to the side.  You can actually see the difference in the sunlight beamed on the leaves. and also an overall brightness difference. I like the 1st one.
Photobucket
Next up, there are tons bridges in moscow, it's moscow river duh. i took a picture of one of the same bridge before crossing and after. They always say look for a different angle, view things in someone's or something's POV. i prefer the more silhouette pic.

Now, this comparison is about the difference of snapshot timing. u see, the 1st one is snap seconds after the 2nd pic. The lady subject steps into the shades just seconds after my 1st shot. It's makes a distinction to capture the moment, such a cliche, but true.
Gonna have finals soon and i'm still frittering away my time. MLF.

Composition. The lesson learning.

I've been paying close attention to this topic for sometime. I know that out there, there's tons of people holding a big dslr (most of the time bigger than mine) doing it the point and shoot way as well as other professionals selling their expertise to newlyweds, fresh graduates and so on.

This made me think, how do i surpass these Other people despite holding a camera lower end than them? Tho i believe that the gears dont matter as much as the person behind it, but you can never deny that the more cash u invest, the more wide varieties of pictures/vids you can have, the more other advantages ( faster fps, better processors, bigger aperture, better pic rendering, etc) you have.

So.. back to composition, just wanna show some example, a little thing to think over the night. Example 1 Photobucket As you can see, the 1st picture was taken at a standing postion, covering more of the fountain and lesser of the sky, and the 2nd one covers more of the sky and lesser of the fountain. i've asked some people, they would prefer the 2nd one, the one taken in a squatting position. I myself prefer the one covering more of the fountain. i wanted to bring out the idea of a grand fountain in front of theatre, ( the theatre looks bigger too, somehow). It maybe just a silk line of difference, but it can means alot to different POV.

Example 2 Photobucket what bout this two? it's just a slight difference in the angle of shooting. i prefer the 1st one.

Anyways, this question emerges, just struck my mind.

Does a well composed picture appears to be appealing as you wanted?
Well, i feel it's hard to say, different people take photography differently. It can be solely for photojournalism; jotting down memories; being extremely artistic for your viewers to guess; or just Cheese-kachak-i've-been-there-vacation-pics; weddings; advertisement; or just merely a hobby.
i've been practising it into my photography sessions, somehow sometimes it does seems better. It's like taking some of this and that and form a more harmonious whole.
you take some of the rule of third,
Photobucket
and a little contrast attraction
Photobucket
then mix with some oblique lines leading your imagination,
Photobucket
plus color differentiation,
Photobucket
you get a perfect shot.
Photobucket
To me, this is my most well composed picture (that i know of) of my life. It certainly does makes a difference. Yes it does.

If you would, spend sometime looking at the picture, please do. 1. a front bush and a background 2. a man standing below the lamp post looking at his phone. 3 clouds having lines leading your eyes down to the post to the main subject 4. contrast and well lit subject. 5. following the rules. kinda. i love this shot. happy*

So yea, you pretty much need to practice your eye. it's not just about the talented eye after all. Grab your cam and start shooting compositions.

Berne Backyard

Had been staying at berne's since the summer, it's about few months till now. Can't be more thankful to these people, letting me bunking over their place. And this backyard, it's kinda like mine too now. Love the tranquility in the day. In the evening, people would swarm this place, parents with kids mostly, or grandparents; passer bys, elderlies, youngsters, dog walkers, knitters, etc.

A short spin in search for inspiration

The night before, i told myself that no matter how, i'm going to visit the photo expo on soviet times of 60s and 70s. Was having our !@#$%#@%(* russian topan test till 430pm. was tired after a whole day class, fighting the weak flesh, so wanting to go home for a refreshing bath and lie down with my laptop and wiki something interesting, but i went to the expo. Eng yaw again, the definition of freeman, join my little tour.
Been wanting to touch my cam for so long, just didnt had the right reason to lug it around to class. Today the bag was lighter, thanks to the test.

I didnt expect russia to be such "sophisticated" society. I was telling E.Y maybe those russians we usually see around town are the norms, commuters, blands. The expo was ending in few days, and i didnt expect to see a crowd there, but the queue to enter was never ending.

Pictures regarding those post-war communism era, they were quite breathtaking. It is just different being in front of a developed picture then just looking at them in flickriver or somewhere else. Quite inspiring. Cant wait to try out some techniques. Besides that, it seems that  photographer those times had their lightroom as well, literally. I can see dodge and burn techniques, high contrast, vignetting, fill light, even cartoonizing. It is just simply amazing that people those times tweak their photographs in the darkroom.

With eng yaw tagging along, i was explaining some exposure triangle stuff to him, he just love to know things, cept medical stuff, lol.

Beers there was in fact the cheapest i've ever seen anywhere else, just when i thought moscow has the cheapest beer flow. a 16oz beer cost 0.79 euro, minus 0.25 if you bring back for recycling. You do the math.
and guess who got happier there? =)

Amsterdam, the city of legalized cannabis and prostitution. and I, literally, amsterdamed. hahaha. well, halfway, i didn't try the latter one.

This is what i saw. True story. i particularly ask myself to put this on. remind myself in the future to come.
